Consumption of electrical energy occupies the second place of most consumed sources of energy in Brazil, and it’s directly connected to comfort in buidings. In order to incentivize practices of rational use of energy at edifications, this present work has the objective to evaluate the compliance of the established strategies by standards to the thermal comfort and the utilization of natural lighting at a residence in Açailândia, Maranhão. For that, it was compared the residential project to the Givoni chart for the region, and to the regulatory standard of thermal comfort, and it was carried out a dynamic simulation of the useful illuminance of natural light. The residence partially met the requirements established by the standardization; however, some rooms have lighting acceptable and desirable. Therefore, it was concluded that the residence has desirable lighting, however it is not thermally comfortable, therefore, it is necessary to utilize solutions to achieve thermal comfort, as long as they do not negatively influence the lighting.
