THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING READING IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF TEFÉ-AM

This article was produced as a conclusion work for the postgraduate course in Elementary Education, with the aim of analyzing the importance of reading in elementary schools, a case study of a Municipal School located in the municipality of Tefé-AM. The research methodology included questionnaires given to a teacher and a school manager. The work was also based on bibliographical research, in specialized electronic magazines, in addition to consultation in virtual libraries at Brazilian universities, as well as physical publications. The work was divided into two stages: the first, we tried to conceptualize reading; and the second, we sought to describe the importance of reading at school. The research result highlighted the importance of working on reading with a new perspective, using different aspects, such as prior knowledge. Thus, the need for meaningful reading teaching that contributes to the formation of a reader who can really understand what he reads was highlighted.
