Abstract

This study analyzes the relationships between literature and history surrounding the work Inferno Verde, contextualizing scenes and settings from the Amazon. Thus, some questions were raised about the short story Maibi, which portrays the rubber cycle during the 19th and 20th centuries. The research method involves an analysis of the exploitation of men and women in the rubber plantations of the Amazon. Thus, the research mentions the rubber trees that were mutilated, which are represented in the short story by the metaphor Maibi, as well as the suffering of the rubber tappers. The result of this work highlights the language of the people of the forest, as well as the daily life of the green hell.
